Ever since the season premiere launched its way onto the FX Network, Legion has smothered its audience with brilliantly inserted visual and audio discoveries for viewers to take note of. Here are just some of the possible discoveries that I came across during my first sit through of the season finale.
Discovery #1
Hail Hydra or Pink Floyd's "Octopus"
The octopus-like imagery that I came across in previous episodes continues here with David's brain scan image. If anything, it seemed even more profound with the color palette utilized.
Discovery #2
Is David in Full Control Here?
David confidently calls out to the Shadow King as "Lenny" forcing him to change form due to its weakening state.
Discovery #3
Signs of the Infected
The Shadow King is actually shown traveling to multiple hosts in the real world through various ways. The yellow eyes of the host seem to be the visual indication to keep note of for future reference. He's able to quickly utilize the host's skills and powers once he hijacks their body. However, keep in mind that Oliver's eyes do not change after being attacked.
Discovery # 4
Possible Visual Callback
David and the Shadow King/Kerry running at each other surrounding by psychic energy might've actually been a slight visual callback to the chalk drawing of Professor Xavier taking on the Shadow King.
Discovery #5
Comic Book Callback
David meditating in the season finale is a visual callback to David's comic-book counterpart in one of his more popular panel images.
Discovery #6
Syd's Tragic History = Personality Theory Killer?
Syd recalls the story of her mother's tragic situation. I do wonder if this is the writers way of directly telling the audience that she is indeed a fully developed person with a history and not a personality as theorized by many. However, due to the nature of the series, one simply cannot jump to conclusions just yet.
Discovery #7
The Shadow King Is Everywhere
The Shadow King can be seen in the "real world" by other characters such as Syd, Clark, and Division 3 through various outlets.
Discovery #8
David Breaking Down
David is shown bleeding in his hands standing next to the child version of himself laying in bed.
Discovery #9
The Shadow King's Outburst of Many Forms
As the Shadow King attempts to break through David's mental coffin, you can briefly see his many forms being displayed one after another.
Discovery #10
The Brief Origin of King The Beagle
Where did King the Beagle and creepy doll face come from? It's all shown in this one blink and you'll miss it scene where David's childhood books are displayed Although we knew about the Angriest Boy book from a previous episode, this is the first time that they've alluded to David's imaginary dog's creation.
Discovery #11
The Shadow King's True Form?
The image at the bottom frame was shown very briefly in an earlier episode as a foreshadowing of this very scene. Is this the Shadow King's true form or just another desired appearance? Keep in mind that we've only see him choosing forms that references objects or items that were introduced in David's life. What in the world could this possibly reference?
Discovery #12
Another Great Pink Floyd Insert
Pink Floyd's Breathe can be heard during the episode and the lyrics "Leave, but don't leave me" perfectly connects to the Shadow King's situation with David as David attempts to get rid of him.
Discovery #13
The Shadow King Is A Creepy Jerk
After Syd throws insult at the Shadow King's decomposing state by telling him "Your Lenny mask is running", he takes it upon himself to show off his transformative abilities by very briefly showing her the Angriest Boy appearance. The "Oh, I've got other faces" is a pretty creepy line all things considered.
Discovery #14
More Wolf Imagery
The interviewer (now revealed to be named "Clark") has a wolf head design on his cane. Wolves and dogs have been visually shown in various ways on the show since its season premiere. Walter's carving, Clock Work's logo, some of Summerland's animal figures, David's imaginary pet, the red lit caged dog at Division 3, etc. I'm still not entirely sure what the dog/wolf imagery points to as of yet (if it does anything).
Discovery #15
Summerland's Population Revealed?
Ever wondered how many people are located in Summerland? Clark might've gave us a number to work with during his discussion with Melanie. 50 is a pretty big number from what I was thinking. How many of these are mutants? Will we eventually meet the people at Summerland randomly walking around i the background? Questions to be answered at a much later time I suppose.
Discovery #16
Clark Knew About Oliver's Situation
Clark reveals to have known about Oliver's situation mysterious disappearance. Does this mean that Division 3 possibly has archives on everyone at Summerland?
Discovery #17
The Shadow King Calls From The Grave
The Shadow King was already showing signs of breaking through the head gear's defenses earlier in the episode via Lenny's whisperings to David. It's easy to miss as it slightly overlaps some of the conversations taking place, but I did manage to catch the close captioning on her voice.
Discovery #18
The Shadow King Calls To Syd
Discovery #19
The Sound of Chaos
Whispering and horrifying screams can be heard in the background while David speaks to Clark about the history of the world.
Discovery #20
The Shadow King's Appearance Shift
When The Shadow King emerges from the bed in his Lenny form, as he walks towards Syd, we get a quick shot of his bloated disguise eerily smiling at her. This is definitely a callback to an earlier episode where he chased her in that form smiling the whole time. Also note the lights dimming.
Discovery #21
The Shadow King's Decomposition
One of the coolest visuals of the series thus far is seeing Lenny's tar-like melting feet (or boots?) as well as her zombie-like face. It would seem that, once in a highly weakened state, the Shadow King begins to struggle with his disguises.
Discovery #22
What or who is the Equinox?
Being that we see Division 3 quickly reacting to the Shadow King conflict with some sort of mysterious counter measure called the "Equinox", there are many theories as to what that can be. My first thought was the comic book character with the same name, but I doubt Division 3 would have any use for a thermodynamic mutant in this situation.
